David Targan

David Targan is an accomplished physicist and educator with extensive experience at Brown University since 1988, currently serving as an Adjunct Associate Professor of Physics and Visiting Scientist. Targan has held various leadership roles, including Director of The Ladd Observatory, Dean for Science Programs, and Director of the Brown University Science Center, where efforts focused on curriculum development, student advising, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Targan's early academic career included a tenure-track position at St. Cloud State University. Additionally, Targan has contributed to the New Hampshire Division of Parks as Chief Mountain Patrol Ranger and has taught courses in mountaineering medicine. Targan holds multiple degrees in astronomy and science education from prestigious institutions including Harvard, the University of Minnesota, and UCLA.
