Rachel Franklin

Visiting Scholar, Population Studies at Brown University

Rachel Franklin currently serves as the Executive Director of the Center for Geographic Analysis at Harvard University, a position held since March 2025. Concurrently, Rachel is a Visiting Scholar and Associate Professor (Research) in Population Studies at Brown University, where Rachel has taught geographical analysis and GIS, and conducted research on population change and migration since September 2010. Previous roles include Group Leader for Liveability at The Alan Turing Institute and Professor of Geographical Analysis at Newcastle University. Rachel's academic journey commenced with a BA in French and Political Science, followed by an MA in West European Studies, and culminated in a PhD in Geography from the University of Arizona. A background in quantitative methods was developed during tenure as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Maryland, and early career experience includes serving as a Statistician/Demographer at the US Census Bureau.
