ABOUT THIS CAREER OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Intermediate Distribution Designer specializing in both overhead and underground voltage systems. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in designing, planning, and optimizing the distribution of electrical power through a combination of overhead and underground systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical distribution, proficiency in design software, and a comprehensive understanding of safety standards and regulations.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Design and plan both overhead and underground electrical distribution systems for optimal power delivery.
  • Create detailed layouts, schematics, and specifications using industry-standard design software.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure designs align with project requirements and standards.
  • Design and plan ISP fiber design to attached to existing utility owned distribution poles.
  • Conduct technical analyses to determine optimal routes, voltage requirements, and equipment specifications for distribution projects.
  • Evaluate the feasibility and cost-effectiveness of overhead versus underground distribution solutions.
  • Ensure designs comply with safety regulations, codes, and industry standards for both overhead and underground systems.
  • Collaborate with safety personnel to implement and enforce safety protocols in all aspects of distribution design.
  • Specify and select appropriate materials and equipment for distribution projects.
  • Coordinate with procurement teams to ensure timely and cost-effective acquisition of necessary materials.
  • Work closely with project managers to coordinate and integrate distribution design activities into larger projects.
  • Provide technical support during the construction and commissioning phases of distribution projects.
  • Create comprehensive documentation for distribution designs, including as-built drawings and design change records.
  • Generate reports detailing design specifications, material lists, and project progress.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering is preferred

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • 3+ years of experience in distribution system design, with a focus on both overhead and underground voltage systems.

SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Intermediate knowledge and understanding of:

  • Design software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, SpidaCalc (or similar pole loading analysis software) or similar tools.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical codes, regulations, and safety standards.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and collaboration abilities.
