Tom Maes has a diverse work experience in the airline industry. Tom started their career in 1997 as a Check-In Agent with Lufthansa and later worked as a Product Manager with Condor Flugdienst GmbH. Tom then joined Goethe Business School as a Teaching Assistant before joining Thomas Cook as a Manager of Process Management. In 2003, they returned to Lufthansa and held various roles including Project Manager and Check-In Agent. Tom also worked as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Iowa. In 2005, they became the Marketing Manager for Belgium and Luxembourg at Lufthansa and went on to become the Manager of Business Development for the UK and Ireland. Tom Maes then served as the Chief of Staff for the Executive Vice President of Sales and Revenue Management, later transitioning to the role of Senior Director of Sales for South America. In 2020, they became the President of Belgalux before joining Brussels Airlines in 2021 as the VP of Commercial Coordination, Revenue Steering, and Embedding.
Tom Maes received their Bachelor's degree in Economics from Goethe University Frankfurt in 1998. Tom then went on to earn a Master's degree in Marketing and Finance from the Goethe Business School - Goethe University Frankfurt from 2003 to 2005. Additionally, they obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) specializing in Marketing and Strategic Management from The University of Iowa Tippie College of Business in 2002. Prior to their higher education, Tom Maes received their High School Diploma (Abitur) from Bischof-Neumann Gymnasium in 1995.
