Matthew M. Pitzarella is the firm’s Director of the Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Section. He works closely with firm leadership to oversee the strategic business development and day-to-day operations of the section including profitability, marketing, business planning, lateral recruitment and professional development.
Matt’s career has spanned nearly 20 years in various management and leadership positions for a variety of related industries. Matt previously served as the Director of Corporate Communications and Public Affairs for Range Resources Corporation,one of the largest natural gas producers in the United States. During his tenure, he held a variety of positions with the Marcellus Shale Coalition and America’s Natural Gas Alliance, now the American Petroleum Institute. He worked closely with stakeholders and business units in the Appalachian Basin, the southwest United States and Washington D.C.
Prior to joining Range, Matt worked in a number of corporate and public affairs positions with NiSource’s various gas distribution companies, which provided service to more than four million Columbia Gas customers in seven states across the Midwest and Northeast United States and previous subsidiary Northern Indiana Public Service Company. Matt also worked on cross-functional teams that supported Columbia Pipeline Group, which is today a wholly owned subsidiary of TransCanada Corporation. Prior to joining NiSource, Matt worked in Marketing Communications and Government Relations for Duquesne Light Holdings. His career began with Burson-Marsteller as a Senior Associate, providing client services across the United States and parts of China for various energy, natural resource, manufacturing and regulatory agency clients.
Matt has participated in hundreds of forums on responsible energy, environmental and infrastructure development. He has served as a guest lecturer at the University of Pittsburgh Center for Energy and the Penn State Marcellus Center for Outreach and Research. He has been quoted in hundreds of media outlets across the globe on energy-related topics.
In 2002, Matt earned his B.A. in Public Relations from California University of Pennsylvania. Matt was selected by the Pittsburgh Business Times as one of their FastTrackers in 2015. In 2014, the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame Pittsburgh Chapter recognized Matt as their Business Professional of the Year. The Washington County Chamber of Commerce named Matt as their Edward R. DeVogue Horizon Award recipient as the top business professional under 40. PRWeek selected Matt as their Young PR Professional of the Year in the United States in 2005. The Pittsburgh chapter of the Public Relations Society of America recognized Matt as their Rising Star at their 2004 Renaissance Awards. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Monongahela Valley Hospital.
