Stacey D. Mitchell

Stacey D. Mitchell is the Principal Consultant at SAGEli Consulting. In this role and throughout her career, she has worked for equity through a focus on leadership and organizational development. Before starting her consulting company, she served as the Director of People, in charge of staff recruiting, development, engagement and HR administration functions at the Obama Foundation. Prior to that, she served as the Vice President of People & Equity at Educators for Excellence. In her role, she led the team that works to attract, develop and retain a diverse and exceptional staff through leading organizational talent management, leadership development, HR administration, and diversity, equity and inclusiveness. Previously, she worked as the Senior Managing Director of Staff Diversity, Equity & Inclusiveness at Teach for America where she provided strategic advice and led initiatives such as identity-based development events,  employee resource groups and restorative dialogues. Stacey has over ten years of experience in measurably improving the staff experience, particularly for people of color and those from low-income backgrounds. 

Stacey’s career began as a sixth grade reading, language arts, and social studies teacher in North Carolina, where she was selected by her peers as the Teacher of the Year. She was also selected to participate in the distinguished inaugural Surge Fellowship. Stacey is fluent in Spanish and graduated with distinction from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, earning a B.A. in English. Stacey was born and raised on the South Side of Chicago and is a wife and mother of three.
