Sharon Mason serves as the Chief Executive Officer for both Selwyn District Council since July 2023 and Buller District Council since October 2018, where leadership encompasses overseeing local governance for a region with over 10,000 residents. In addition, Sharon holds the position of Board Trustee at Buller Health Trust and has previously held the role of Chief Executive Officer at Clutha Health First from January 2023 to July 2023. Earlier experience includes significant operational leadership at Hawkes Bay District Health Board as Chief Operating Officer, Southern District Health Board as Director of Operations, and North West Area Health Service as Executive General Manager. Key achievements include strategic planning for district-wide health services and management of complex health service delivery involving extensive geographical coverage. Education includes a degree in Nursing from North Tyneside School of Nursing.

The Buller District Council is the territorial authority for the northern West Coast. Our goal is to promote the well-being of our local communities. We have a wide range of responsibilities under the Local Government Act. Our mission is - 'To serve the residents of the Buller district, conscious of their needs, by providing facilities and services and creating an appropriate environment for progress and development.'
