Bumi Baru
40% of global land is degraded, and this severely threatens our climate, food security, water availability and ecosystem health. As land is a finite resource and natural carbon sink, restoring degraded land is a vital lever to mitigate climate change. In Southeast Asia, there is 121 million hectares of degraded land, and 40 million hectares in Indonesia alone. We see a huge opportunity to transform this unused degraded land from a liability into an asset. BumiBaru’s value proposition is to enable landowners in Indonesia to regenerate their degraded land, so that it can be used for productive, carbon sequestering activities. Our solution consists of 4 components: (i) finding and securing suitable degraded land, (ii) restoring and operating on the land, (iii) selling the offtake, and (iv) acquiring financing needed for land restoration and project setup. BumiBaru will start with growing crops and timber on regenerated land as these have lower barriers to entry.
