Markus Himpele

Markus Himpele has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Markus is currently working as the CIO at Burckhardt Compression, starting in October 2023. Prior to this, they held the position of Head Global Applications & local Delivery Centers / Deputy CDIO at the same company from June 2023 to October 2023, where they played a crucial role in building a new global Application and Delivery Organization.

Before joining Burckhardt Compression, Markus worked at Axpo Group as the Head Group IT Operations & Projects (Shared Services) from November 2020 to May 2023. Markus also served as the Head Corporate Business Services & Digitalization at Autoneum from October 2014 to July 2020.

Markus gained valuable experience at Vodafone Germany, where they held the position of Executive Service Manager / Head of Executive Service Management from March 2011 to October 2014. Prior to this, they worked at Capgemini in various positions, including Regional Client Service Manager, from May 2005 to February 2011.

Their career began at Schneider Electric, Netherlands, where they held various positions, including SAP Competence Center Lead, from August 2000 to April 2005. Throughout their career, Markus has consistently demonstrated their expertise and leadership skills in the field of IT and digitalization.

Markus Himpele has a diverse education background with a focus on business and technology. In 1997, they attended The University of Bonn where they studied IT and Languages, but it is unknown whether they obtained a degree from this institution. From 2004 to 2008, Himpele pursued a Bachelor of International Management at FOM University of Applied Sciences for Economics and Management. Following this, they completed their MBA from the same institution from 2008 to 2010, specializing in Business Administration. In 2023, Himpele enrolled in the SIB Swiss Institute for Business Administration where they pursued a post-graduate degree in Chief Digital Officer with a focus on Business & Technology, completing it in 2024.

Aside from formal degrees, Himpele has obtained several certifications. In 2023, they achieved the Microsoft Certified: Security, Compliance, and Identity Fundamentals as well as the Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals. In 2022, Himpele attained the Professional Scrum Product Owner™ II (PSPO II) certification from Scrum.org. Additionally, they hold certifications in Leading Strategic Initiatives from IMD Business School and the Professional Scrum Product Owner™ I (PSPO I) from Scrum.org, although the specific completion dates for these certifications are unknown.
