Salim Kombo has a diverse work experience in various organizations. In 2017, they joined Busara as an Analyst Coordinator, responsible for executing projects and identifying evidence-based solutions to behavioral challenges. Salim later progressed to become an Associate, Senior Associate, and currently holds the position of Associate Engagement Director, where they lead a team and drives the planning and strategy of engagements in the Governance & Civic Engagement portfolio.
Prior to their time at Busara, Salim worked as a Program Coordinator at Nottawasaga Institute (NI) from 2014 to 2017. Salim was also involved with the Pan-African Youth Union as an International Affairs Consultant, assisting with organizational development and policy work.
Salim has also gained international experience through volunteering. Salim served as an Exchange Volunteer with the Japan Overseas Cooperation Agency (JOCA) in 2013, working on community revitalization projects in a tsunami-affected area in northern Japan. Salim also contributed to the African Union Commission as a Youth Volunteer, supporting the organizational development of the Pan-African Union.
Salim started their career as an intern at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kenya in 2011. In this role, they were involved in policy brief development, attending meetings, and speech writing related to the country's relations with the African continent.
Salim Kombo has a strong education history that includes a Masters of Arts (M.A.) degree in International Relations and Affairs from Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, which they obtained in 2012. Prior to that, they completed their Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in International Relations and Affairs from United States International University - Africa, graduating in 2010. Salim's educational journey began at New Cairo British International School (NCBIS), where they completed their high school education focusing on GCSE coursework from 2001 to 2005.
Additionally, Salim has obtained several certifications to enhance their skills and knowledge base. In 2020, they completed a Covid-19 Contact Tracing certification from The Johns Hopkins University. In 2017, they obtained a certification in Protecting Human Research Participants from The National Institutes of Health. In 2012, Salim completed a Humanitarian Mapping Training program offered by MapAction. Furthermore, in 2011, they took an introductory course on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation and Conserving and Enhancing Forest Carbon Stocks (REDD+), which was offered by Conservation Training. Salim also has certifications in Introduction to R Course from DataCamp and Project Design, Monitoring, and Evaluation from PM4DEV, although the dates of completion are not specified for these last two certifications.
