Reza Rassool

Reza Rassool has a diverse work experience in the technology industry. Reza started their career as a Consultant at Pioneer Hi-bred and Discreet in the late 1990s. In 1999, they became a Partner at Skymicro Inc., where they developed an OEM business for high-end video capture board.

From 1999 to 2000, Reza worked at Second Sight Medical Products as the Director of Software, where they played a key role in the development of a retinal implant. Reza then joined Widevine Technologies as the Chief Engineer and VP of Product Development, guiding the start-up in content security and IP innovation. Widevine Technologies was later acquired by Google.

Reza served as the CTO at Zya, a music-making company, contributing to the development of the Ditty app. Reza also co-founded Kwaai Oak - CTO-as-a-Service™, providing technical consulting services to numerous digital entertainment platforms. Kwaai Oak’s engineers have been involved in the success of several startups, including DIRECTV, CBS, Panasonic, and Second Sight.

In 2016, Reza joined RealNetworks as a Fellow and later became the CTO. At RealNetworks, they worked on various projects involving AI, computer vision, facial recognition, and streaming technologies. Reza also managed the technical aspects of RealMedia's China OEM Business.

Recently, Reza has taken on the role of Chair at Kwaai, where they focus on guiding AI development to benefit humanity and building a community.

In 2023, Reza also served as the Chief Technology Officer at Business Wire, leading the technology strategy of the company.

Throughout their career, Reza Rassool has demonstrated expertise in a wide range of technologies and has contributed to the success of numerous organizations.

Reza Rassool earned a B.Sc. degree in Physics from King's College London during the period of 1981 to 1984. Additionally, they currently hold the position of Affiliate Professor in Computer Science and Physics at the University of Washington, starting from 2022.
