The Role

BuzzFeed Studios is looking for a highly experienced and innovative leader for its digital video business.  The VP, Video will oversee the portfolio of video channels and brands, and will be charged with the mission of taking them to new heights as BuzzFeed builds a studio of the future. The VP, Video will be highly creative and innovative, with a deep understanding of digital video trends, creators, audiences and platforms, as well as a passion for modern technologies, such as AI video creation tools and virtual production. They should be enthusiastic about pioneering new domains in digital video and have a clear and compelling strategy for building out high volumes of superior programming across the network. They will also work tirelessly to identify products and opportunities for brand partners to participate in the video business and will be goaled on both passive and direct sold revenue goals. In addition they will partner with our film, audio, television and gaming departments to find upsell opportunities. They will be an inspiring and empowering manager, a strong communicator, and a keen collaborator. This is a hybrid, full-time role, located in our Los Angeles office.

You Will

  • Oversee the digital video portfolio.
  • Assist in concepting and development of content. 
  • Strategize for the continued growth of brands, formats and channels. 
  • Build rigorous systems for greenlighting and analysing content. 
  • Introduce AI creation techniques.
  • Identify and work with creators. 
  • Pitch and sell branded and sponsored content to advertising clients. 
  • Build superior internal and external creative materials.
  • Liaise with business affairs, operations, accounting and other admin departments as required to report on the health of your business.
  • Use data and available resources to inform future content ideas, drive up results, and develop audiences.
  • Liaise with the marketing teams regularly and help facilitate what they need in order to drive audiences to our programming. 
  • Lead brainstorms and pitches.
  • Supervise current productions.
  • Be a thoughtful, diligent, leader and contributor that works at a fast pace, with enthusiasm and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Be the main internal representative for all things Video at BuzzFeed Studios.

You Have

  • At least 10 years of experience working in senior positions in the digital media industry.
  • An affinity and competency with contemporary production and distribution technologies. 
  • Outstanding organization and communication skills.
  • Superior project management and producurial skills. 
  • Superior editorial judgment and command of current events, culture, entertainment, and social media
  • A positive, curious disposition with an active interest in figuring out what makes an audience tick.
  • A great energy and attitude. Can take direction and collaborate well with others.
  • A competitive drive and big ambition. Humble and confident.
