Senior Director Of Translational Medicine at Cabaletta Bio

Jenell Smith Volkov has a diverse work experience in the field of bioengineering and translational research. Jenell began their career in 2007 as a Summer Research Student at Bucknell University where they employed various methods of controlled radical polymerization to generate chromophore-modified polymers. Jenell then went on to participate in a NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) at Drexel University in 2008 where they studied the contribution of crosslinker concentration on chitosan hydrogel structure. In 2010, they began their Ph.D. Candidate in Bioengineering at the University of Pennsylvania where they contributed to the industry-wide transformation supporting the significant role of inflammation and the immune response in neuropathic disorders. In 2016, they joined Longevity Biotech as an Associate Director of Clinical Neuroscience and Scientist II, where they led translational clinical T cell biomarker program in Parkinson’s disease, organized IND-enabling study plans, and managed outsourced preclinical studies for lead candidate. In 2020, they joined Cabaletta Bio as Director and Principal Scientist of Translational Research.

Jenell Smith Volkov has a diverse educational background. Jenell attended Bucknell University from 2005 to 2009, where they earned a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering. Jenell then attended Drexel University from 2009 to 2010 for Graduate Studies in Materials Engineering. Finally, they attended the University of Pennsylvania from 2010 to 2015, where they earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Bioengineering.
