Sumbal Rafiq

Sumbal Rafiq serves as the Vice President of Engineering at Cadence Design Systems since May 2019, overseeing chip design, operations, and the management of hardware field service engineering. With extensive experience in the semiconductor field, Sumbal has led the development of advanced technology node custom ASICs and collaborated on methodologies for design optimization. Previous roles include Director of Engineering at Qualcomm, where Sumbal contributed to the development of ARM 64-bit server SOCs, and Senior Director of Engineering at Applied Micro, leading the successful tape out of SOCs and ASICs. Additional experience encompasses positions at MagnaChip Semiconductor, Ample Communications, Intel Corporation, and PMC Sierra, with a strong background in physical design and product development. Sumbal holds an M.A.Sc in VLSI from The University of British Columbia and a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore.
