Director Of Sustainability, Inclusion And Climate Change at CAF

René Gomez-Garcia has a diverse work experience in various roles and positions. René started their career as a Project Engineer at CES Consulting Engineers Salzgitter GmbH in 1985, where they specialized in the design and construction of water works. René then worked as a Project Engineer at the Hydrological Engineering Center, where they focused on the development and training of HEC models. In 1993, they returned to CES Consulting Engineers Salzgitter GmbH as a Senior Project Engineer, assuming the position of team leader and providing advisory services on hydraulics, hydrology, reservoirs, irrigation systems, and water resources projects.

In 1997, they transitioned to the education sector and became a Professor of Hydrology and Hydraulic Works at Universidad Privada Boliviana - Fundación Educativa. After that, they held the position of Director General at Fondo Nacional de Inversión Productiva y Social, FPS, where they were responsible for the management and coordination of the organization.

In 2000, René joined UNDP as the National Coordinator for the Capacity 21 Program. In this role, they facilitated the implementation of sustainable development projects. René then moved to CAF -banco de desarrollo de América Latina- in 2003 and took on the role of Specialist in Sustainable Development. During their tenure at CAF, they held different positions, including Senior Executive in the Environment department and Head of the Green Business Unit. René is currently serving as the Director of Sustainability, Inclusion, and Climate Change at CAF, responsible for leading initiatives in these areas.

Throughout their career, René has made significant contributions in the fields of sustainability, inclusion, and climate change, as well as in the development and management of environmental and social programs.

René GOMEZ-GARCIA holds a degree in Civil Engineering from Tecnológico de Monterrey. They also pursued an M.Sc. in Irrigation and Civil Engineering from Utah State University and obtained a Doctorate in Civil Engineering from Universidad de California en Davis.
