James Shaw has extensive law enforcement experience, beginning as a Soldier in the Canadian Armed Forces from May 1986 to August 1991 with the Canadian Airborne Regiment. Following this, James served as a Police Officer with the Ontario Provincial Police from May 1996 to September 1999 before joining the Calgary Police Service in September 1999. In the Calgary Police Service, James has held multiple leadership positions including Critical Incident Commander and Duty Inspector while supervising all patrol operations. Additionally, James served as a Tactical Unit Team Leader and provided specialized training in various tactical operations. Between January 2011 and January 2012, James worked with the United Nations as a Police Officer and team site leader in South Sudan, also acting as the Deputy State Police Adviser in Aweil. James is educated at the Ontario Police College.
