Bart Shepherd

Bart Shepherd serves as the Senior Director at the California Academy of Sciences since October 2011, leading a team of over 50 personnel in various responsibilities including animal care, veterinary services, and guest safety, while overseeing prominent attractions like the Steinhart Aquarium and Osher Rainforests. Previously, Bart held several positions at the same institution, including Director of the Steinhart Aquarium and General Curator, where significant staffing and operational improvements were made. Experience prior to the California Academy of Sciences includes positions as Faculty Research Associate at Vassar College and Aquarist at the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center. Bart holds a BA in Art & Art History from William & Mary and an MS in Biology with a focus on Biomechanics from Vassar College.
