Carmen Loera

Senior Director, Greater Los Angeles Local Advocacy at CALIFORNIA CHARTER SCHOOLS ASSOCIATION

Carmen leads policy and advocacy efforts to support member schools across Los Angeles County in the areas of charter school authorization, renewals, growth, funding equity, facilities and community advocacy. Carmen works closely with charter operators and local elected officials to maximize the positive impact of charter schools in the region. Carmen has been working in the education sector for the past 6 years in various capacities at Fresno State, Leadership Public Schools Richmond, West Contra Costa Unified School District, and Oakland Unified School District. Prior to joining the Local Advocacy team, Carmen's previous roles included Youth Organizer, Parent Lead Organizer, and Manager of CCSA’s Youth Program where she lead parent and student leadership development and advocacy efforts. As a charter alum and first-generation student, she experienced firsthand the value of a charter system that gave her and many students a chance at higher education. Outside of work, she spends her time with family and the outdoors; hiking.
