Tammy Rae Carland

Provost at California College of the Arts

Tammy Rae Carland is the current Provost at California College of the Arts. Tammy has also held positions at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Jessica Silverman Gallery, and Mr. Lady Records and Videos.

Carland founded Mr. Lady Records and Videos in 1996 and served as its Operations Manager until 2004. Under their leadership, the company became one of the most successful independent record labels and video art distributors in the world.

After earning their Ph.D. from DePauw University in 1995, Carland began their teaching career as an Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In 2002, they left UNC to join the faculty at California College of the Arts, where they have served as Provost since 2013.

Throughout their career, Carland has been a strong advocate for the arts and has played a major role in promoting the work of female artists and musicians. Tammy is widely respected as a leader in the arts community, and their work has helped to shape the field for generations to come.

Tammy Rae Carland holds a Master’s Degree in Fine/Studio Arts from UC Irvine and a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine/Studio Arts and Gender Studies from The Evergreen State College.

Some direct reports include Dominick Tracy - Associate Provost for Educational Effectiveness, Tina Takemoto - Dean of Humanities & Sciences, and Keith Krumwiede - Dean of Architecture. Their manager is Stephen Beal, President. They are on a team with Scott Cline - VP Enrollment Management & Auxiliary Services, Sunny A. Smith - Dean of Fine Arts, and Cathrine A. Veikos - Faculty Senate President.
