Jana Staniford

Jana Staniford has extensive experience in legal and policy roles, currently serving as a Deputy Attorney General and Legislative Advocate at the California Department of Justice since February 2021. Prior to this, Jana held multiple positions at the California Energy Commission, including Advisor to Commissioner Patty Monahan and Attorney in the Office of the Chief Counsel, from May 2014 to February 2021. Additional experience includes serving as a Policy Associate at Save The Bay, a Field Organizer for Obama for America, and a Canvass Director for Grassroots Campaigns. Jana began their legal career as a Law Clerk at Earthjustice and the California Natural Resources Agency and has also worked as a Legislative Intern at the Planning and Conservation League. Jana holds a Doctor of Law (JD) from the University of the Pacific - McGeorge School of Law, with concentrations in Public Law and Policy and Environmental Law, and a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and International Studies from the University of the Pacific.
