Venus D. Johnson is an accomplished legal professional with extensive experience in the public sector. Currently serving as Chief Deputy Attorney General at the California Department of Justice since August 2021, Venus previously held the position of Chief Assistant District Attorney at the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office from October 2019 to July 2021, overseeing various criminal justice units. Prior roles include Assistant District Attorney at the same office and Director of Public Safety for the City of Oakland. Venus served as a Commissioner on the State Bar of California's Commission on Access to Justice and has held multiple positions within the California Department of Justice, including Associate Attorney General and Deputy Attorney General III/Legislative Advocate. Education includes a Juris Doctor from the University of the Pacific - McGeorge School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Loyola Marymount University, with additional studies at the University of Oxford.
