Sydney Smith

Sydney Smith is a Lead Elemental Chemist and Heavy Metals & Nutrient Analyst at Cambium Analytica since October 2020, specializing in techniques such as Agilent ICP-MS, ICP-OES, Elementar, and Leco CN928, along with microwave digestion systems like Milestone ETHOS UP and CEM MARS 6. Prior to this role, Sydney engaged in an Organic Chemistry Synthetic Research Internship at Lake Superior State University from August 2017 to March 2020, focusing on the synthesis and analysis of 3,4-dihydroquinazoline compounds. Sydney received the Undergraduate Research Center Grant for quaternary synthesis of these compounds via DDQ oxidation, and the senior research topic involved synthesis of C4, quaternary 3,4-dihydroquinazolines through PIFA-mediated oxidative nucleophilic addition. Sydney holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Biochemistry from Lake Superior State University, earned in April 2020.
