Chris Hayward

Dr. Hayward is Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University, where he has held multiple leadership positions. For the past twelve years, Dr. Hayward has been the Adult Psychiatry Division Chief and Director of Adult Psychiatric Clinical Services for Stanford Health Care. In this role, he has extensive experience with clinical service operations, multidisciplinary staffing, mental health care finance, and quality improvement for ambulatory, inpatient, and emergency psychiatric services.

Dr. Hayward is also active in medical education and training. He currently serves as the Program Director for the Adult Psychiatry Residency Training Program. In 2008, he was selected as one of the "Educators-for-Care" physicians in the Stanford Medical School and has been the recipient of the Teacher of the Year and Mentor of the Year award by graduating residents.

Prior to his administrative leadership roles, Dr. Hayward participated in psychiatric research, specifically in the area of psychiatric epidemiology. He has authored or co-authored over 100 publications, and his research has focused on the emergence of internalizing disorders (depression, anxiety, and eating disorders) within school-based populations during adolescence.
