George Lewis serves on the board of directors of Enbridge Income Fund, Ontario Power Generation (Chair of Audit and Risk Committee), the Anglican Diocese of Toronto Foundation and the Canadian Film Centre (CFC). He is the past-chair of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and has served previously on the boards of the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health Foundation (CAMH), Holland Bloorview Foundation, Operation Springboard, and on the campaign cabinet of the United Way of Greater Toronto. George is a regular parishioner at Christ Church Deer Park.
From February 2007 until November 2015, George was a member of RBC’s Group Executive, one of eight executives responsible for setting the overall strategic direction for Royal Bank of Canada, the parent of the RBC companies. In that capacity, he served as Group Head of RBC Wealth Management from 2007 and RBC Insurance from 2012. As Group Head, Wealth Management, George led the RBC businesses that serve the wealth management needs of affluent clients globally, and units that provide asset management and trust products. He was also Chairman of RBC Global Asset Management Inc. From 2006 to July 2016, he was the portfolio manager of the RBC Global Dividend Growth Fund and RBC International Dividend Growth Fund.
George was Chief Executive Officer of RBC Global Asset Management from July 2000 to May 2008. Under his leadership, it became Canada's largest single mutual-fund family (RBC Funds) and one of Canada's largest asset management firms. He previously served as Head of Wealth Management for the Canadian Personal and Business segment and, from 2003 to 2006, was head of all banking and investment products for RBC’s Canadian Business.
From 1998 to 2000, George was Managing Director, Head of Institutional Equity with RBC Capital Markets, responsible for global institutional-equity sales, trading and research. He was previously a top-rated equity analyst and Director of Research with RBC Capital Markets. He began his career with RBC in 1986, in the investment banking division of RBC Capital Markets.
George earned a Master of Business Administration degree with distinction from Harvard University. He obtained the professional designation of Chartered Accountant while working with Arthur Andersen & Co. and a Bachelor of Commerce degree with high distinction from Trinity College at the University of Toronto. He became a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (FCA) in 2013. George is a CFA charterholder and is certified by the Institute of Corporate Directors.
