Robert Munroe has been the Visual Effects Supervisor on projects such as Cube, Caveman’s Valentine, Finding Forrester, Splice, The Tudors, Dolphin Tale and The Borgias, for which he was nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Special Visual Effects. He was Second Unit Director on Splice, The Tudors and Nothing, Co-producer of The Tudors and Executive Producer of Academy Award-winning director Chris Landreth’s short film The Spine. In the late 1990s, Munroe developed a process that enables animators to match lighting from real world film sets to synthetic lights in a computer-generated environment. The process was awarded both U.S. and Canadian patents. In addition to effects supervision, directing and producing, Munroe is a long-standing member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Film Centre and an Adjunct Professor at Sheridan College. He is a member of the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television (ACCT), The Director’s Guild of Canada (DGC) and the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (ATAS). Munroe is a Professor in Digital Film at the DeTao Masters Academy in Shanghai, China. In 2013 he was appointed to the board of the Computer Animation Studios of Ontario as government liason. Munroe is also a board member of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.
