Leah Soroko

Director, Global Research Partnerships at CIFAR

Leah Soroko, PhD, has a diverse work experience spanning various industries and roles. Leah is currently the Director of Global Research Partnerships at CIFAR since October 2023, where they also serve as the Manager of Strategic Research Initiatives since December 2022. Prior to this, they worked at the Ministry of Colleges and Universities as a Manager and later as a Team Lead, Intellectual Property Secretariat. Before that, they were a Project Lead at the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade. Leah also served as a Policy Resident in Education and Children's Policy at The Ontario Cabinet Office. Leah worked as a Senior Policy Advisor at the Ministry of Research and Innovation in the Ontario Public Service from 2015 to 2019. Additionally, they have held roles at MASS LBP as a Facilitator, the Munk School of Global Affairs, University of Toronto as a Supervisor, and the Department of Political Science, University of Toronto as the Head Teaching Assistant and later as a Graduate Teaching Assistant. Leah also has experience as a Post-Doctoral Associate, where they focused on evaluating legislation and interpretation of human rights and co-authored articles in academic journals. Outside of their professional work, Leah has volunteered as a Member of the Managing Board at Campus Community Co-op Daycare, where they oversaw all aspects of running a small business and initiated policy review and website development.

Leah Soroko, PhD, completed their education in sequential order, beginning with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in History and Political Science from The Hebrew University in 2000. Leah pursued further studies and received a Master of Arts (MA) degree with Summa cum Laude distinction in Political Science from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem from 2000 to 2003. Later, Leah enrolled in the University of Toronto, where they obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Political Science in 2014.
