Jason Carkner

Director, Programs at Canadian Lutheran World Relief

Jason Carkner is the Director of Programs at Canadian Lutheran World Relief. Jason has over six years of experience in the nonprofit sector, including three years as the President of the Manitoba Council for International Cooperation. In this role, Jason was responsible for leading all Board and Executive meetings, as well as overseeing the organization's budget. Jason also chaired a sub-committee to prepare for a $16.5 million GAC-funded initiative, which involved contract negotiations, hiring new staff, policy development, and risk management. Prior to their work with MCIC, Jason worked as a Consultant for Program Development at A Rocha Canada. In this role, they provided guidance on engaging stakeholders to refine a shared vision for a conservation, sustainable agriculture, and environmental education program. Jason also authored a business plan detailing programmatic options, next steps, and a $1.7 million budget for a back donor in May 2017.

Jason Carkner has a Master's Degree in Globalization and International Development from the University of Ottawa / Université d'Ottawa. Jason also has a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Sociology and Political Science from York University. Jason Carkner is also a certified Sphere Trainer.
