Ian Fukushima

Ian Fukushima is an accomplished Machine Learning Engineer with extensive experience across multiple companies in the field of data science and machine learning. Currently at Canals since September 2025, Ian previously served as a Senior Machine Learning Engineer at Blue Orange Digital, where expertise in Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Large Language Models (LLMs) was applied to develop innovative solutions that significantly streamlined engineering processes and supported generative AI initiatives. Prior experience includes roles at Tabas as Tech Lead - Data Scientist, where Ian oversaw the deployment of machine learning models, and at Indicium Tech as a Data Scientist, delivering data solutions to various clients. Earlier positions included an economist intern at the Santa Catarina Court of Justice and an undergraduate research fellow at the Federal University of Santa Catarina, complemented by a Master of Science in Applied Economics from the University of São Paulo and a Bachelor’s degree in Economy from the Federal University of Santa Catarina.
