Paul Otto has a diverse work experience in the technology industry. Paul began their career as a Lecturer at University College London where they led the Computer Science part of a project focused on developing stereo algorithms. Paul then joined Canon Research Centre Europe Limited as a Director, where they were involved in R&D for various technologies such as audio, 3D graphics, voice recognition, and translation assistance. After that, they worked as the Chief Technology Officer at 3Q Technologies Limited, overseeing the design and development of 3D surface capture equipment and application software. Paul was also a co-founder and co-owner of Surfim Limited, a company that developed 3D capture equipment and software for the healthcare industry, before selling the technology to Canfield Scientific Inc. In their most recent role, they served as the Chief Technical Officer at Canfield Scientific.
Paul Otto earned their Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in Mathematics from the University of Cambridge, where they studied from 1975 to 1978. After completing their undergraduate studies, they pursued further education at the University of Cambridge, where they obtained a Part III of Maths Tripos degree in 1979 with a focus on Maths and theoretical physics. Following this, Paul Otto attended UCL from 1979 to 1984, where they earned a PhD degree in Physics. Despite their official field of study being Physics, they actually specialized in computing and image processing during their doctoral program.
