Wes Peterson

Wes Peterson has extensive experience in the actuarial field, with a focus on healthcare. Wes'smost recent position is with Canopy Health, where they started in 2023 as the VP of Actuary. Prior to this, Wes worked at Bright Health as the AVP of Actuarial - Individual ACA from 2021 to 2023. In this role, they led a team of 15 actuaries and provided actuarial analysis, pricing, and rate filings for 10 states.

Before joining Bright Health, Wes worked at Sutter Health from 2016 to 2021. Wes held two positions during their time there - Managed Care Analysis Director and Senior Health Actuary. As the Managed Care Analysis Director, Wes led analytics to support Medicare Value Based Products and was responsible for the implementation and monitoring of a Direct Contracting Entity. As the Senior Health Actuary, they served as the interim CFO for Sutter Health Plan and led all actuarial services for the provider-sponsored non-profit SHP HMO.

Prior to Sutter Health, Wes was the AVP of Business Intelligence at Innovacare from 2015 to 2016. Wes oversaw a team of data analysts and provided strategic analytics for the Medicare Advantage and Medicaid businesses. Wes also worked as an Actuarial Consultant at Susquehanna Actuarial Consulting, Inc. from 2012 to 2015, where they supported the development and maintenance of Medicare Advantage pricing model calculations.

Before that, Wes held various positions at Blue Shield of California, Sutter Health, Thomson Medstat, and SHPS. These roles included Senior Program Manager, Senior Contract Analyst, Consulting Manager, and Senior Consultant.

Wes Peterson received their Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Pacific Lutheran University, where they studied from 1984 to 1986. Wes then pursued further education and obtained their Master of Science degree in Mathematics from Western Washington University, attending from 1986 to 1988.
