Joel Hopkinson

Joel Hopkinson has a diverse work experience spanning several industries. Joel started their career in 1991 as the Head Mouldmaker and casting technician at Nautilus Art Foundry, where they specialized in all aspects of lost wax bronze casting and mold-making technologies. From 1994 to 2002, Joel worked as a Senior Sculpture Technician at the University of the Arts London, where they delivered instruction on manufacturing methods and specialized in lost wax bronze casting techniques.

In 2003, Joel became a Conservation Carpenter and Consultant, a role they held until 2018. During this time, they worked independently under their own name, providing conservation carpentry services and consultancy.

In 2017, Joel joined Dolmen Conservation & Joinery Limited as a Project Lead Carpenter, consultant, and later as Design and Project Manager. Joel worked with the company until 2023.

Currently, Joel is the Head of Estates and Fabric at Canterbury Cathedral, a position they have held since May 2023.

Joel Hopkinson obtained their Bachelor of Arts degree in Sculpture from Camberwell College of Arts from 1989 to 1992. Joel pursued further education by completing a Master of Science degree in Architectural Conservation at the University of Kent from 2019 to 2021.
