Before joining Kansas City National Security Campus, Melissa worked at Schlumberger from 2003 to 2012, where they held various positions including Polymer Engineering Manager (August 2007 to September 2012), Senior Engineer, R&D (September 2004 to August 2007), and Materials Engineer (January 2003 to September 2004).
In the early years of their career, Melissa worked as a Materials Engineer and later as an Applications Engineer at Emerson Process Management from 1999 to 2003. Melissa also gained research experience as a Research Assistant at Ames Laboratory from August 2000 to December 2002.

Melissa Ver Meer, Ph.D., completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Following their undergraduate studies, they pursued a Master of Science degree in Materials Science and Engineering at Iowa State University. Melissa continued their education at the same institution and earned their Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from Iowa State University.
