Dr. Seungpyo Hong is Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Wisconsin and is President and co-founder of Capio Biosciences, Inc. Dr. Hong obtained his Ph.D. in Macromolecular Science and Engineering at the University of Michigan in 2006 (advisors: Profs. Mark Banaszak Holl and James Baker, Jr.), focusing on understanding biological interactions of nanocarriers such as dendrimers. Dr. Hong’s expertise was further expanded during his postdoctoral training in Prof. Robert Langer’s lab at MIT, working on polymeric nanoparticle-based drug delivery as well as immobilization of bioadhesive molecules to capture cancer and stem cells on surfaces. Since 2008, Dr. Hong has successfully led a research lab consisting of 10+ members, under the research theme of Biomimetic Nanotechnology including novel capture devices for rare cells and biomarkers from human blood. This research activity directly led to the development of the CapioCyte™ Circulating Tumor Cell (CTC) platform that is currently under development.
