Alex B. Johnson

Alex B. Johnson is the President and CEO of Capital Workforce Partners (CWP), the regional Workforce Development Board for the 37 municipalities throughout the North Central region of Connecticut. With its mission to leverage public and private resources to produce skilled workers for a competitive regional economy, CWP serves nearly a million individuals through the region’s four American Jobs Centers and a range of high-value programs that connect job seekers and employers. Alex has served in his current position since 2017.

He previously served as CWP’s Chief Operating Officer, a post he held since joining the organization in 2001. As Chief Operating Officer, Alex was responsible for oversight and direction of CWP staff, programs, and services. He also provided lead support to the CWP Board of Directors and its various committees. He has dedicated his career to helping youth and adult individuals build careers that align with the needs of Connecticut’s employers.

Prior to joining CWP, Alex served as the Executive Director of the Northeast Connecticut Regional Workforce Investment Board, dba Workforce ONE. He also worked for the City of Hartford (CT) in a variety of administrative capacities, including the Director for Employment and Training and Special Assistant to the City Manager. Alex has a successful and extensive track record of working collaboratively with business-led Boards, developing employer engagement strategies and has comprehensive knowledge of federal and state legislation, as well as deep experience with workforce development-funded programs.

He is an active member of the Governor’s Workforce Council and dedicates time to serving on a number of community Boards, including Community Chest of New Britain/Berlin as the Elected Chairman of the Board of Directors, Career Resources Incorporated and the Board of Director’s for National Skills Coalition. A graduate of the University of Connecticut, Alex holds a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree in Public Administration.
