Steven Cousens has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Steven began their career as a Franchisee with College Pro, where they successfully ran their own painting business for two summers. Steven then transitioned to the role of Production Manager, where they managed a team of painters and was responsible for day-to-day operations and customer satisfaction.
After College Pro, Steven worked as a Labourer for the City of Edmonton for a summer, gaining valuable experience and meeting many great people. Steven then had the opportunity to work as an HR Summer Intern at Capital Power Corporation, where they worked in Labour Relations and contributed to various HR projects and initiatives.
Following their internship, Steven joined Capital Power as an HR Associate, providing support in recruitment and internal employee movement. Steven assisted with administrative tasks and coordination for recruitment and onboarding processes.
Steven's next role at Capital Power was as an HR Business Partner, where they worked closely with business leaders to understand their needs and develop HR plans aligned with business objectives. Steven collaborated with HR specialty teams to deploy policies and programs that drove business results.
Most recently, Steven held the position of Manager, EMOC at Capital Power. In this role, they led a dynamic team of Energy Management Engineers, Specialists, and Operators who managed the day-to-day operations and offered exceptional services to customers. Steven also worked on diverse projects, gaining valuable experience towards their P Eng certification.
In addition to their professional work, Steven officiated hockey for several years, participating in various leagues and being recognized for their contributions and leadership. Overall, Steven Cousens has a wide range of experience and skills in management, HR, and operations.
Steven Cousens earned their Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources Management/Personnel Administration, General from Concordia University of Edmonton. In 2019, they obtained two additional certifications: SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) from SHRM and CPHR from the Human Resources Institute of Alberta (HRIA).
