Principal Oceanographer at Captura

Sophie Chu, Ph.D., currently serves as the Principal Oceanographer at Captura since February 2023, bringing extensive experience in oceanographic research. Prior to this role, Sophie worked as a Research Scientist at the University of Washington from April 2019 to February 2023 and held a position as a JISAO Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Washington/NOAA Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory from March 2017 to April 2019. Sophie's academic journey includes a PhD in Chemical Oceanography earned from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology between 2011 and 2017, where also served as a Graduate Student and Graduate Research Assistant. Earlier experience includes roles as a Senior Technician at Columbia University Medical Center and an Undergraduate Research Assistant at Columbia University in the City of New York. Sophie's foundational education was completed with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering at Columbia Engineering from 2005 to 2009.
