Mckenzie Gilbert-Vass has worked in the education field since 2017. Mckenzie began their career as an Elementary School Teacher at Ogden Elementary School, where they generated appropriate learning focused lesson plans, engineered curriculum pacing guides and implemented behavioral and academic interventions alongside special education and intervention specialists. In 2019, they were recognized by the state of North Carolina for achieving above average student growth in reading for the 2018-2019 school year. In 2022, they transitioned to a role as Onboarding Specialist at CareAcademy.com. Additionally, they currently work as a Media Coordinator for New Hanover County Schools, where they develop school media programs and collaborates with various stakeholders to organize and maintain an efficient and comprehensive media system for processing and cataloging over 18,000 hard copy and digital materials. Mckenzie is also responsible for instructing over 600 students in information literacy with an emphasis on integrating curriculum and instructional technology.

Mckenzie Gilbert-Vass received their Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and Teaching from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2017. Mckenzie is currently pursuing a Master of Library & Information Science - MLIS from Appalachian State University, which they are expected to complete in 2022.
