Mikael Laine

SVP, Strategy & Interim COO, Kalmar at Cargotec

Mikael Laine is the current Senior Vice President of Strategy at Cargotec. Prior to this, they were with KY - Aalto University Business Students, Aspo plc, and Cargotec Corporation. Mikael was also the President & CEO of Moventas from March 2012 to November 2013.

Moventas is one of the world’s leading industrial and wind gear manufacturers providing power transmission solutions to a variety of industries including the wind energy, pulp and paper, mining, and marine markets in addition to supplying comprehensive services for the overhaul, maintenance and remote management of gears. Moventas had some 950 employees in 15 countries and a worldwide partner network and annual sales in range of 160 million Euros in 2013. Moventas is owned by Clyde Blowers Capital Fund III.

Under Laine’s leadership, the company saw annual group net sales grow by couple of percentages, of which services sales grew double digit. All customers were retained after a turbulent period of the parent company bankruptcy, corporate restructuring and change of ownership. Mikael also successfully stabilized the company internally after the turbulent period.

Laine globalization the company further by entering to four new countries and internationalization of the management team. Mikael also executed a restructuring plan with one factory closure and production transfers. The first M&A acquisition was completed as part of the growth strategy.

Mikael Laine has a Master's degree in finance and management from the Helsinki School of Economics.
