Yumi Ohtani

Director Of Research Development at Carisma Therapeutics

Yumi Ohtani has extensive experience in the field of scientific research. Yumi began their career in 2003 as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania, where they pioneered novel assays and identified direct target genes of Notch1. Yumi then moved to Immunome in 2017 as a Senior Scientist, where they designed and conducted functional assays and phospho-kinase array followed by high throughput western blot analysis. In 2019, they joined Carisma Therapeutics as an Associate Scientific Director, Discovery, where they supervised 3 Ph.D. and 3 non-Ph.D. scientists to generate non-viral gene delivery systems for human primary macrophages. Yumi then became a Principal Scientist, where they supervised and led 2 Ph.D. and two non-PhD scientists in the same field. Finally, they established the non-viral gene delivery methods for preclinical study, developed and screened efficient CAR constructs for primary human macrophages, and developed functional screening systems for CAR-Macrophages.

Yumi Ohtani holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Immunology from Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine.
