Elie Al Shami has a diverse range of work experience in engineering. Elie worked as a hydrodynamic engineer at Carnegie Clean Energy starting in 2020. Prior to that, they held various roles at RMIT University, including tutor and PHD researcher from 2017 to 2020. Elie also worked as an aeronautical engineer at the University of Balamand in 2017. From 2014 to 2016, Elie worked as a technical assistant at the Composite Materials Lab, where they gained experience in composites material design, fabrication, testing, and research. Elie also worked briefly as an aeronautical engineer at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation Lebanon in 2015 and as a mechanical manufacturing engineer at Napco National in 2015.

Elie Al Shami completed their education with a Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from the University of Balamand in 2015. Elie then pursued a Master's degree in the same field at the same university from 2015 to 2017. Following this, Elie Al Shami enrolled in a doctoral program at RMIT University, specializing in Ocean waves energy harvesting. Elie successfully completed their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in 2020.
