Laura Walker, MD, is a medical professional with extensive experience in hospice, palliative care, and home-based primary care. Currently serving as Medical Director at Carolina Caring House Calls since April 2020, Walker specializes in providing care for patients with serious illnesses in their home environment. Prior to this role, Walker held leadership positions as Chief Quality Officer and Medical Director at OptiMed Hospitalists PLLC and Chief Medical Officer at Piedmont HealthCare and Piedmont Community Health Collaborative. With a medical career spanning over two decades, Walker has developed expertise in quality initiatives, clinical program development, and physician leadership, starting from a foundational role as a Family Physician at West River Regional Medical. Academic credentials include a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Calgary and a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from The University of Lethbridge.

Carolina Caring was founded in 1979 by volunteers dedicated to providing end of life care for both patients and families residing in Catawba County, North Carolina and its surrounding counties. Today, our team of professionals and volunteers serves more than 300 hospice patients. Our Mission is to provide world class, compassionate care by engaging all individuals and their families to enhance living. A comprehensive program of medical care, counseling, and spiritual support for patients and families is offered regardless of diagnosis, age, gender, nationality, race, faith, sexual preference, disability, or ability to pay. Carolina Caring is licensed by the state of North Carolina, certified by Medicare and Medicaid, is nationally accredited, and complies with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act privacy practices.
