Bill Mengel has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Bill started their career at The Chart House Restaurant, Inc as an Assistant Manager/Assistant General Manager from 1991 to 1994. Bill then joined The Wood Company, where they served as Director of Dining Services I & II, managing a $1M and later a $1.8M Military/Corporate Dining facility. Bill was also promoted to the role of Commissary Executive Chef, overseeing total food production and distribution to eight dining facilities, and they received the Business Dining Divisional Leadership Award in 1999 for their outstanding performance.
Afterward, Bill worked as a Business Counselor for D.C. Randolph-Sheppard Nominee, Inc, providing consulting services to blind vendors operating vending and food service operations. Bill then joined Talbot County Public Schools, initially as a School Manager, overseeing all school and building support functions, and later as the Manager of TCPS Food Services, responsible for administering various child nutrition programs to over 4,700 students.
From 2016 to 2021, Bill worked for the Seaford School District as the Supervisor of Nutrition Services. In this role, they supervised a dynamic K-12 Nutrition Services program and managed the implementation of various USDA-regulated child nutrition programs. Bill also led community outreach initiatives, such as the Summer Food Service Program, which had a significant impact within the Seaford neighborhoods.
Bill's most recent position is as the Director of Operations at Caroline County Public Schools, starting in September 2021. Overall, their work experience demonstrates their expertise in food service operations, leadership, compliance with government regulations, and community outreach.
Bill Mengel completed the Mentorship Program in Oceanography at the U.S. Naval Academy from 1986 to 1987. Bill then pursued a Bachelor's Degree in Hotel, Restaurant & Institutional Management at Penn State University from 1987 to 1991. Additionally, Bill obtained the SNA Level IV certification from the School Nutrition Association in February 2021.
