Greg Mackay

Greg Mackay is a board member at Carr Gomm. Greg was previously the Operations Director at Kames Capital from October 2011 to November 2016. At Kames, they led the service delivery and budget responsibility for the Operations team of around 100 FTEs, including Middle Office, Data Management, Vendor Management, Fund Oversight, Business Analysis and Performance, and Portfolio Risk.

Mackay designed and delivered a significant restructure of the Kames Operations area that increased collaboration and removed siloes, generated greater cost efficiency through the removal of management layers, increased process efficiency and performance through the removal of EUC solutions, enhanced the operational risk profile, and implemented new resource and performance management frameworks. The restructure as a whole delivered significant cost reductions and greatly increased employee enablement and empowerment, with a 15 to 20 point increase in key metrics over the period.

Mackay also led a strategic review of the operating model with outsource partner (Citi). Greg secured a £2m budget from the Executive Committee to undertake 14 work-streams over 15 months jointly with Citi in order to deliver significant enhancement to STP rates across all asset classes and improved adherence to supplier’s standard service offering. In addition, they sponsored a project to migrate Transfer Agency for Kames onshore fund range (BNYM to Northern Trust). The project was successfully completed on time and on budget, generating cost savings in excess of £1m per annum.

At Kames, Mackay owned and prepared business plans for Operations that were presented to multiple audiences including the executive committee, quarterly leadership conferences, and monthly townhalls to ensure consistent communication of progress against clearly defined objectives. Greg also proactively participated and assisted in the design of a number of people development initiatives, including a programme focusing on improving collaboration across functions through greater levels of personal ownership and responsibility in order to deliver excellent levels of client service consistently.

Greg Mackay has a Bachelor of Arts Honours from the University of Strathclyde in International Business and Languages. Greg also has a certification in Investment Management Certificate.
