Javier Pérez Trufero is currently the VP of Product at CARTO. Prior to this, they were an MBA candidate at IESE Business School from September 2015 to May 2017. While at IESE, Javier was the initiator and director of the Barcelona Technology Transfer Group (BTTG). The BTTG was a collaborative program between R&D centres and MBA students with the goal to commercialise products of high value to society and boost the creation of spin-offs in the high tech sector. Javier was also a mentor for a startup, guiding them in finding new applications and defining the best go-to-market strategy for their product. In addition, they were the Vice-President of the Technology, Media & Telecommunications Club, a student organisation with over 260 members.
From September 2012 to August 2015, Javier worked as an Innovation Project Manager at Avanti Communications. In this role, they were the project manager of a large collaborative innovation project co-funded by the European Commission. This project had a budget of over 12 million euros, a consortium of 16 European partners, and more than 50 team members. Javier led a team designing a product to approach new customer segments and increase the company’s addressable market. Javier also identified new business opportunities, built project partnerships, and conducted preparation of bids for future projects. As a result of their efforts, the department won a pan-European project worth 400k€. Javier was also the technical leader in studies and research projects funded by the European Commission, European Space Agency, and other customers. In this role, they provided support to systems engineering, analysis and design of novel communication systems and applications involving satellite and other communication technologies.
Javier Pérez Trufero has a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) from IESE Business School, a Master Thesis from University of Southern California in Telecommunications Engineering, and a Telecommunications Engineering (Bsc / Msc) from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. Javier is also certified from the Association for Project Management in APM Introductory Certificate in Project Management.
