Alexandra Brainerd currently serves as the Education Programs Coordinator at Catalina Island Conservancy since February 2023. Prior to this role, Alexandra worked as a Teaching Assistant for Energy and The Environment at Stanford University, where responsibilities included teaching and managing course logistics for a class of 50 students. Additional experience includes grading for the Introduction to Earth Systems course, interning with the Marine Conservation Institute to create evaluation reports for Marine Protected Areas, and working as a Production Assistant on Martin Scorsese's film "Killers of the Flower Moon." A climate media internship with The YEARS Project focused on communicating environmental issues through storytelling, while research positions at various institutions involved studying ecological systems and analyzing data. Alexandra holds a Master of Arts in Earth Systems and a Bachelor of Science in Earth Systems, both from Stanford University.

The mission of the Catalina Island Conservancy is to be an exemplary steward of Island resources through a balance of conservation, education and recreation. Through its ongoing efforts, the Conservancy protects the magnificent natural and cultural heritage of Santa Catalina Island, stewarding approximately 42,000 acres of land, 50 miles of rugged shoreline, an airport, and more than 200 miles of roads. Twenty miles from the mainland, the Island is a treasure trove of historical and archeological sites, and numerous rare and endangered animals and plants.
