Gavril Giurgiu

Gavril Giurgiu is a Principal Data Scientist at Caterpillar Inc. since July 2020, with extensive experience in data science and analytics across several prominent organizations. Prior to Caterpillar, Gavril served as a Data Science Manager and Principal Data Scientist at HERE Technologies, where leadership involved managing data science teams and spearheading analytics projects on vehicle sensor data, resulting in the development of key products such as HERE Road Signs and HERE Hazard Warnings. Gavril's earlier experience includes a Postdoctoral Fellowship at Johns Hopkins University, where contributions included leading data analysis and software projects for elementary particle identification using advanced statistical and machine learning techniques, and a research role at Argonne National Laboratory. Academically, Gavril holds a PhD in Physics from Carnegie Mellon University, complemented by a B.Sc. in Physics from the University of Bucharest and a brief educational stint at the University of Copenhagen.
