Patricia Vargas, MBA, has a diverse work experience in various organizations. Patricia has served as the Director of Children, Family, and Community Service at Catholic Social Services of Alberta since June 2018. Additionally, Patricia has contributed as a Task Force Member of the Alberta Human Trafficking Task Force under the Government of Alberta from May 2020 to October 2021. Prior to these roles, they held the position of Executive Director at Stratcona Shelter Society Ltd for over 17 years, from April 2001 to June 2018. Furthermore, Patricia worked as a Community Development Specialist at the University of Alberta Legal Studies Program, where they were responsible for website development related to women abuse and immigrant women from 1997 to 2000. Patricia also served as a Coordinator at the Edmonton Council Against Family Violence from 1996 to 1998, facilitating service coordination among family violence-serving agencies. Patricia's experience also includes working as a Human Rights Officer at the Alberta Human Rights Commission from 1989 to 1998 and as a Researcher and Policy Analyst at the Solicitor General, Correctional Service of Canada, where they developed policy initiatives and recommendations from 1993 to 1994.
Patricia Vargas, MBA, completed their Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree in Business Administration and Management, General from the University of Alberta from 2007 to 2009. Prior to this, they obtained a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Government from The University of Lethbridge. Additionally, Patricia holds a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Political Science and Government from the University of Waterloo.

For nearly 60 years, Catholic Social Services has been providing help to the most vulnerable members of our community. Today, we work in three priority areas, serving individuals with disabilities, children and families, and newcomers to Canada. In 2018 alone, we served more than 20,000 vulnerable Albertan's through 90 programs, in 11 communities across Central Alberta. A sample of the work we do includes: - Providing counselling and other intervention services for families in crisis; - Facilitating kinship and foster care for vulnerable children; - Supporting adults and youth with disabilities; - Developing and delivering residential care programs for vulnerable individuals, including youth, those with chronic illness, and those challenged by addictions; - Providing shelter for women and children escaping family violence; - Assisting newcomers to Canada with ongoing settlement supports.
