Bailey Lovett

Marine Biosecurity Scientist at Cawthron Institute

Bailey Lovett has extensive work experience in various fields. Starting in 2014, they worked as a Coach at Priority Fitness Inc until 2015. In 2015, they joined Propolis Fitness Collective as a Coach and continued until 2021. Bailey also served as a Judge for the Prime Minister's Future Scientist Prize from 2016 to 2020. They pursued a PhD at The University of Auckland from 2015 to 2020, investigating spinal curvature in farmed New Zealand king salmon and also worked as a Teaching Assistant during that time. In 2017, Bailey served as a Student Representative on the NZMSS Council and as an After-Hours Volunteer Advocate at Shine. In 2019, they joined Epsom Strength as the Head Coach until 2021. Bailey also worked as a Social Media Manager at Troy Goodall Photography from 2019 to 2021. Their most recent role is as an Aquaculture Analyst at the Ministry for Primary Industries, starting in 2021. Currently, Bailey is working as a Marine Biosecurity Scientist at the Cawthron Institute from May 2022.

Bailey Lovett holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Zoology from the University of Otago, which was obtained between 2011 and 2014. Following this, Bailey pursued further education at The University of Auckland, where they completed a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Marine Science between 2015 and 2020. Additionally, Bailey has obtained the Maritime VHF Operator's Certificate from Coastguard Boating Education in October 2022. Another certification, the PADI Open Water Diver, has also been achieved, although specific details regarding when and where this certification was obtained are not available.
