Luis M. Madera has a diverse work experience in various organizations. Luis M. started their career at AID for AIDS in 2013 as a Case Manager, where they focused on managing daily administrative activities and conducting targeted outreach for Hispanic and Latino populations at risk for HIV infection. In 2014, they joined the Hispanic AIDS Forum as a Coordinator for Gay and Bisexual Men Services, and later became a Life and Wellness Coach-Supervisor for the Entre Hombres Program. In 2018, they moved to Cayuga Centers, where they held multiple roles including Agency Trainer, Sr. Curriculum Designer, and currently serves as the Assistant Director of Curriculum and Instructional Technology.

Luis M. Madera pursued their education at various institutions, starting with their Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Philosophy and Religious Studies from Iona University, which they obtained between 1990 and 1994. Seeking further knowledge in the field, they then enrolled at Washington Theological Union from 1995 to 2000, where they completed their Master of Arts and Pastoral Studies (M.A.P.S.) degree with a specialization in Religion/Religious Studies.
