Demetre Daskalakis is the Deputy Coordinator for the National Mpox Response at The White House since August 2022, previously serving as the Director of the Division of HIV Prevention at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) from December 2020. At CDC, Demetre was also involved in the COVID response as Deputy Incident Manager of the Vaccine Task Force and Senior Equity Advisor from March 2021 to October 2021. Prior to CDC, Demetre held leadership roles at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, including Deputy Commissioner overseeing various public health programs and Assistant Commissioner for the Bureau of HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control. Demetre's experience also includes serving as Medical Director of HIV clinics at the Mount Sinai Health System and as an Attending Physician and Assistant Professor at New York University School of Medicine. Educational qualifications include a Master of Public Health from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and multiple degrees from Harvard Medical School and Columbia University.
